The piece of text I chose to read for workshop 2 was Sams 2016 How do art and design technicians conceive of their role in Higher Education? I found that ultimately technicians role is one of teaching technical skillsets which are highly desirable in the industry. However Technicians aren’t given support on order to further their skillset further or even develop their own practice which is what they tend to do and why they choose a career path as a technician. The supporting role they play allows a sense of safety in the students to push them further to experiment. Whenever obstacles arise they help to find the solutions, finally they teach skills which are valuable for the industry.
